The Preach My Gospel planner, rebuilt for the week you have now.

If you are looking for a Preach My Gospel app for returned missionaries, this is what you are actually looking for: the weekly planning session, key indicators in four areas, and a companion who can see your goals. The official Preach My Gospel app is only for serving missionaries. RM Life is the independent one, built for after you come home.

First, the honest part

This is not the Preach My Gospel app, and it is not trying to be

Two different tools for two different stages of your life. Knowing which one you need takes about ten seconds.

Preach My Gospel, the official app

Published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for assigned full-time missionaries: teaching records, area planning, and progress against your assignment. If you are still wearing the tag, this is your app and nothing here replaces it.

RM Life, this app

Independent, built by a returned missionary, for the years after release. Same weekly loop, pointed at classes, work, a major, a relationship, and a body that has opinions now. No assignment, no reporting up, and a Spiritual area you can use or leave alone.

The gap between them

Release day ends your access to the tools and ends the rhythm at the same moment. Most returned missionaries go looking for the Area Book Planner again about three weeks later, which is roughly when Tuesday afternoon starts feeling shapeless.

RM Life is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Preach My Gospel and Area Book Planner are used here only to describe the official tools this app is not.

The weekly planning session

Nine guided steps, every week, for the rest of your life

You ran a version of this every week in the field. RM Life walks you through it in about thirty minutes, then puts the result on a real calendar instead of a page you close.

Begin with Prayer

Optional, and yours. The app will not say your prayers. It is just a reminder to bring God into your planning session.

Review Last Week

What you planned, next to what actually happened. Completed events, places you went, hours by area.

Check-in

A straight question about how the week actually felt, asked before the numbers get a chance to argue with you.

Set Weekly Goals

Your key indicators for the week ahead, in all four areas. Count goals, timed goals, or scheduled goals.

Plan Essentials

Sleep, classes, shifts, and meals go on the calendar first, so the rest of the week is planned against reality.

Plan Goal Time

Every goal gets a block on a real calendar. A goal without a time on it is a wish, and you learned that in the field.

Review Your Week

See the whole plan at once and move things before the week starts, not after it has already gone sideways.

Companion Council

Share what you chose with someone who will actually ask about it. You pick the friend and you pick the goal.

Close with Prayer

Also optional, also yours. Then the week is planned and the app guides you throughout the week.

These are the nine steps in the app today. The structure is inspired by the weekly rhythm returned missionaries already know; it is not a reproduction of any Church manual or curriculum.

Key indicators

The four areas came home with you

Spiritual, physical, social, intellectual. Set a number in each, and RM Life builds your progress from what actually happened instead of what you remembered to tap.

Spiritual

Scripture study, prayer, temple trips, institute. The habits that got you here, tracked as mornings and visits rather than vibes.

Physical

Sleep, gym, the things your body needs to stay healthy. Saved places log the visits for you.

Social

Calls home, dates, dinners that make it onto a calendar instead of staying an intention.

Intellectual

Classes, books, skills. Timed goals that count real focused hours, not open tabs.

Why not something else

Preach My Gospel, a paper RM planner, a habit app, or this

The honest comparison. If one of the others fits your life better, use it. Here is where each one stops.

The Preach My Gospel column describes what that app is for, not a judgment of it. It is very good at the job it was built for.

Straight answers

Preach My Gospel, the Area Book Planner, and what happens after

Is this the Preach My Gospel app?

No. Preach My Gospel is the official app from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it is for assigned full-time missionaries. RM Life is an independent app, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Church, and it is for people who already came home.

What happened to the Area Book Planner app?

The Area Book Planner was replaced by the Preach My Gospel app, announced in June 2023, which is why many returned missionaries still search for it under the old name. That app is only for serving missionaries, and access ends when your assignment does. RM Life is the one built for after the mission.

Can I keep using Preach My Gospel after my mission?

The official app is provisioned for assigned missionaries, so returned missionaries lose access to the planning tools they used in the field. Check with your leaders for your own situation. RM Life is designed for exactly that moment: the same weekly rhythm, on your own account, with no assignment required.

How is this different from a paper RM planner?

A paper planner records what you meant to do. RM Life records that too, then shows what actually happened: which planned events you completed, which saved places you visited, and how your hours split across the four areas. The weekly review compares the two instead of asking you to remember.

Do I have to be a returned missionary to use it?

No. The method comes out of a religious practice, and Spiritual is one of the four areas rather than an add-on. Nothing in the app asks you to believe anything, so anyone rebuilding structure gets the same weekly loop. The app started in the returned-missionary community because that is where weekly planning is already a way of life.

Does it have companionship study and companion inventory?

RM Life has a companion council step inside weekly planning, and you can add friends as companions for specific goals. You choose per friend and per goal what they can see. It is accountability by design rather than a copy of the mission schedule.

When does RM Life launch and what does it cost?

RM Life is in active development for iOS and Android and has not launched yet. There is no public release date to promise. The plan is a free trial with no payment method required to start it, then a subscription after the trial. Pricing is not final, so treat that as intent rather than a quote.

More questions about the app itself are answered on the main FAQ, and the returned-missionary story is on this page.
